It was the NGO ‘Loksatta Movement’ who
had filed PIL in Bombay High Court against Indian Premier League (IPL) asking them to move its matches from Maharashtra to other states.
As per the estimates nearly 60 lakh
liter of water would have been used to maintain pitches at all three stadiums
(Mumbai, Pune and Nagpur)
Maharashtra is feeling the shortage of
water not just for farming but for drinking and sanitation as well but, as usual the power house BCCI had turned
a Blind Eye for Financial Gains!!
Finally it was Bombay High Court who intervened
and came down heavily on IPL authorities and has asked them to move all the matches post 30 April to different venues other than
Maharashtra.
As many as 13 matches will be moved out of the state. (6 from
Pune, 4 from Mumbai and 3 from Nagpur)
Will it really benefit the people who are
hit hard by the water scarcity?! I don’t know.
But, one thing for sure in such dire times
using water for recreation is the last thing one should have thought of in
first place…
